Life bans have been imposed on two Turkish tennis officials after they were found guilty of manipulating scores. The integrity unit if ITF said that two Turkish tennis officials Serkan Aslan and Mehmet Ulker “delayed the inputting of scores and/or fraudulently manipulated scores by inputting fictitious deuce games” at ITF Futures events in 2015.
The Integrity unit also found Mehmet Ulker allowing “third parties to benefit from placing bets on matches he was officiating”.
In the International Tennis Federation’s investigations, Ulker was found to deliberately delay in putting the scores into a PDA device. On the other hand, he communicated the scores to a third party using his cell phone while officiating at a Futures tournament in Belek, October 2015.
Both men also did not give in to the request of the investigators to hand over their cell phones for the purpose of investigation.
ITF Futures tournament is an entry level tournament in professional tennis. However, this ban on the Turkish officials covers on all events which are sanctioned by this world tennis governing body, the Association of Tennis Professionals and the Women’s Tennis Association.
